Shipwreck Dive Treasures.

Whispering century old secrets and telling their stories through breathtaking patina, these shipwreck bottles lay hidden away at the bottom of the sea for over 100 years before being discovered by treasure hunters. They are now an element in artwork and part of this stunning collection in the shipwreck series by Isabeau Grey.

Greyfreth Cross Bottles

Framed within heavy, weathered solder, a stunning and substantial cross of leaded Austrian crystal chandelier remnants provides a beautiful example of the juxtaposition of rough and refined. Supporting the large cross is a bottle that was excavated during shipwreck dive in the depths of the Atlantic Ocean. It is a circa 1880 antique cork top amber bottle donned in a spectacular masterpiece of a crusty, iridescent and rusty patina. Naturally created below the sea for over a century, the patina is imbued with an absolute riot of amazing colors that change as the light dances across the surface of the weighty, antique glass. I have matched and aged the patina on the sculpted solder so it looks like the cross and bottle were always a single piece. An extremely special cross bottle for the discerning collector. A piece that can stand alone or bejewel your existing collection.

Photographs do not do this piece justice. The crystals refract and throw an amazing amount of light with a confetti of color and are much more clear and brilliant than the pictures show. See additional photos below.

Greyfreth Cross Bottles

Reminiscent of the design in the center of an ancient Mariner's compass, an ornate cross of meticulously cut Austrian chandelier crystals crowns a mid-1800's amber bottle of beautifully patinated, antique glass. For well over a century this weighty, hand blown bottle has be hidden under the ocean while a natural and mesmerizing patina was painted by time, the elements, and the salty sea. Forever held within the confines of heavy solder, imbued in the weathered hues of rusted and salt eaten iron, the refined crystals throw light in all directions with their meticulously cut surfaces. A halo of diminutive amber hued crystal runs a beautiful ring around the center of the cross and also bejewel the points of the cross. Calcification adds texture and an element of shipwreck relics while striations lend testimony to the decades of tumbling with the tides and storms Changing and uncommon riots of color flash out of nowhere within the unique patina when the light happens open it. Perfection.

An Italian Processional Crucifix has aged beautifully and demonstrates the elegant beauty of poetic dilapidation. Once shiny and gold, the gold leaf has worn away over time in numerous areas, leaving behind a stunning patina and exemplifies the juxtaposition of rough and refined. Serving as a powerful crown, the crucifix is held by heavy solder to a shipwreck dive bottle that is a piece of art in and of itself. Ribbons of calcification of pale white intertwines with crusty rust while a riot of color explodes when the light reveals its hiding places. The entire piece has an air of ancient beauty and is a powerful presence.

Where to even start with explaining how special this piece is... The incredibly detailed and beautiful memorial cross is donned in a time worn hue of brass. The detail is exquisite and the beauty is indescribable. It is engraved on the back with initial and a date, and etched by hand is a note of love left for by one who cared deeply for the intended. Serving as a pedestal for this crucifix is one of our shipwreck dive bottles -- it is gorgeous and full of complementing and contrasting elements within the bottle itself and between it and the crucifix. The glass is so old and the patina has an opaque metallic quality to it - as if the light is coming from within. Pale calcification, rust enshroud the century old glass while stunning jewel tone hues are brought to life by any light that happens upon its surface.

Photographs truly do not do this piece justice and we will leave the note of love a mystery for the new owner to read for themselves. See additional photos below for more detail.
